87. St. Michael Parish | Waialua, HI

At a young age, it was my parents who have taught me why the Church is important. I have come to believe that it is a person’s childhood that can affect one’s whole life. There comes a time in every child when he or she makes the transition into adulthood. This may come anytime in a person’s life; however, in some way, this moment is culturally defined. My desire into the priesthood was evident throughout my childhood and young adult stages. My parents enrolled me in CCD Sunday school since a young age, and we went as a family to church every Sunday. God was a mystery, but it was not for me to figure it out but to just believe in it. By age 20, I knew I wanted to become a priest. I was convinced that the Church life was all that I have been after all my life and I thought to myself why not pursue it. While my friends were planning their days schedule on playing hide and seek and going to the beach; I was planning my schedule on Sunday masses or the next church event. When it was time for college, my passion was filmed. I strayed away from the church scene and was consumed by the film world. The question of priesthood kept haunting me in the back of my head. I had a difficult time working in film because of my hidden desire for the priesthood. I ignored God’s calling until it hit me like a ton of bricks. I could not think of anything happier to do than providing for the needs of the community. St. Michael Parish, thank you for the wonderful memories and parish priests that have impacted my discernment to the Priesthood. I owe a lot to the wonderful North Shore Catholic community. I will be celebrating my first Mass at St. Michael Parish as a sign of gratitude for all they have done for me.
